Joe NewberyJoe Newbery

Joe served in the Royal Australian Army for over 20 years. His time in Defence was influenced by his appointment in training roles including recruit training, trade training and in training design. Joe established Newbery Consulting in 2005 which is now one of the most respected providers of training quality consulting services in Australia. Joe specialises in VET sector compliance and developing customised training solutions that support compliance and lead to optimal vocational outcomes. Joe provides internal compliance services to his existing clients including internal compliance auditing. Joe holds a Diploma of Quality Auditing and a Diploma of Training and Assessment. Over the period 2007 – 2011, Joe provided AQTF Lead Audit services on behalf of the National Audit and Registration Agency (NARA) and the Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board (VETAB). Joe continues to provide lead audit services on behalf of current regulatory authorities.


Tony CraigTony Craig

Tony has worked his life in the automotive industry as a Mechanical Engineer. In 1996, Tony commenced delivery of Vocational Education and Training as a visiting Trainer with Box Hill Institute of TAFE. This quickly became a full time appointment and in 2003, Tony led the redesign of the Institute curriculum for the Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical (Heavy Vehicle). In 2005, Tony was appointed to the project team that developed the Automotive Training Package (AUR05). Tony acquired his Diploma of Training and Assessment 2006 and has since been fully engaged both in the delivery of training and training design. In 2008, Tony was awarded the Premiers Excellence Award in the award category for Building Industry Capability in recognition of his work in leading the development of innovative training solutions. Tony now works as  a consultant training designer and provides services on an ongoing basis to TAFE VIC, NSW TAFE, Department of Defence and BHP Billiton. Tony is frequently invited to present at national conferences and events and is recognised as one of Australia’s leading experts in training design.


Julie ThompsonJulie Thompson

Julie began her work in education in 1985 as a secondary school teacher in public education. Completing her Bachelor of Education with the University of Queensland, Julie spent her early years teaching in Brisbane and Toowoomba. In 1991, Julie was transferred to the QLD Department of Education and Training (DET) to contribute to a project aimed at integrating trade skills training into secondary education. This was the first “VET in Schools” initiative in Australia and set the benchmark for programs that followed in other States. Julie remained at DET working on various skills development projects until 1995 when she moved to the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) as a Senior Project Officer. Julie’s role at ANTA involved the development of learning design methodologies extending from industry training packages. In 2004, Julie completed her Master of Learning and Development with the University of Southern Queensland. Julie currently works as a consultant in training design and is a member of the Federal Government Skills Consultative Group. Julie is a nationally respected VET practitioner and is committed to skilling the VET workforce.
